BNSF Railway presented RMI with its Service Partner of the Year Award for 2008 - Best in New Technology for the development of the “I-CAN” system for container terminal operations. RMI accepted the award at the IANA Operations and Maintenance seminar in Oak Brook, IL on April 30.
The “I-CAN” (Intermodal Crane Automation Network) system was designed to automate equipment tracking, container stacking optimization, and railcar assignment. I-CAN is part of the OASIS terminal operating system used by BNSF at its intermodal terminals, and helps optimize the use of wide-span cranes. The system was successfully implemented at the BNSF Seattle International Gateway (SIG) intermodal terminal in 2008.
“Developing I-CAN was truly a joint effort between RMI and BNSF and we believe that this type of collaborative effort with our service providers provides BNSF Railway with the best possible solutions,” said BNSF’s Tom Kelly, Director, System Intermodal Hub Operations and Technology. “RMI is certainly deserving of this award.”
RMI Vice President of Intermodal Scott Holland said, “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our team. We value our relationship with BNSF, and look forward to working together going forward to achieve an even greater level of automation in intermodal container handling.”
