Citrix is supposed to trot out a new 3D addition to its HDX Technology for high-definition virtual desktops today.
HDX 3D is supposed to let the company’s XenDesktop deliver high-end professional graphics in real-time over any network.
The company imagines users in manufacturing, engineering, automotive, defense, aerospace, graphic design, architecture, animation and the oil and gas industry availing themselves of the real-time collaboration widgetry to let globally dispersed design teams work from the same source files, while still housing the data, operating system and applications centrally, ensuring the security of critical IP.
Citrix figures XenDesktop with HDX technologies can now deliver virtual desktops to all office-based users in an enterprise through a single desktop virtualization product.
It claims that “other technologies being introduced to the market consume excessive amounts of bandwidth and are only capable of delivering slow and frustrating performance to users over the wide area network (WAN).”
XenDesktop with HDX 3D is said to consume up to 10x less bandwidth than alternatives even over a LAN, so companies implementing virtual desktops won’t need any expensive network upgrades.
Later this year Citrix says it will add HDX technologies that enable the delivery of multimedia applications including rich media, voice and video.
HDX 3D will be free with XenDesktop Advanced, Enterprise and Platinum and can be downloaded at http://hdx.citrix.com.
