Cloud Computing Expo on Ulitzer
Enterprises large and small are drawn by the advantages of cloud computing - pay-for-use, self-service, elastic scalability and the elimination of hardware management - resulting in very low barriers to entry and exit and high agility. However, according to keynote speaker, Richard Sarwal, enterprises are also concerned about security, quality of service, integration, compliance, lock-in, and long term costs of public clouds. Private clouds for the exclusive use of one enterprise can mitigate these concerns by giving the enterprise greater control.
The 4th International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo is co-located with the 7th International Virtualization Conference & Expo and will be taking place November 2-4, 2009 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA.

This is the time of year when people make their predictions for the next year. Building on some recent surveys and polls including: What's your take on Windows 7? Is IBM XIV still relevant? EMC and Cisco Acadia VCE, what does it mean?
Once a company has identified the business value of systems and data, they typically assign a risk value to losing those. This typically sets the wheels in motion to get a backup system in place. Backup, the very first step in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning, is the base upon which you will build your strategy. Without the backup, there is nothing to archive nor restore later. Backing up typically entails duplicating data onto a secondary medium which acts as a safeguard against primary storage failure. This can be something as simple as a disk to disk (D2D) replication to a second storage system, or as complex as an NDMP stream across a fabric infrastructure to tape libraries waiting to write the data to magnetic tape media.
We have all the tools for securing information in a Cloud: establishing trust through identity, data privacy through encryption, and content integrity through signatures. We are overly focused on Cloud Security issues and less on reliability. This is all about to change.
OWASP AppSec DC 2009 had a compelling session that defined cloud taxonomies and the security implications associated with the cloud computing. The three taxonomies that have become part of our vernacular are:
