European Basketball Takes Another Giant Leap With NTT Europe Online

- NTT Europe Online Provides Secure and Scalable Online Architecture for FIBA, the European Basketball Federation with http://www.EuroBasket2009.org

LONDON, November 25 /PRNewswire/ -- FIBA Europe, the European Basketball Federation, worked with NTT Europe Online to showcase EuroBasket 2009 which reached a record online audience of eight million visitors and distributed over four terabytes of data during the duration of the tournament.

This year's European championship tournament, held in Poland, was successfully delivered online with a tailored managed hosting solution from NTT Europe Online which provided the availability and reliability needed to take audience numbers to a new level.

Fans watched live games and caught up with in-depth news, pictures, and videos on the FIBA Europe website which received a total of 30 million page views with peak traffic numbers nearing one million on September 9th which saw the final games of the preliminary round of the competition take place.

A central component of the solution was NTT Europe Online's content delivery network (CDN). NTT Europe Online's special cache server prevents interruptions and website crashes by managing peak traffic loads. The CDN allows FIBA Europe to deliver rich content such as live images and videos to unpredictable traffic spikes.

"Millions of basketball fans around the world expect comprehensive, live information and images from the EuroBasket games and a reliable, secure web presence is essential to satisfy them," said Nick Marzoli, responsible for Information Technology at the FIBA Europe. "Big traffic spikes can only be handled by a managed hosting partner such as NTT Europe Online, which not only has a proven experience of sporting events, but also understands FIBA's high standards regarding quality, reliability and service fulfilment."

Other NTT Europe Online sports sector clients include FIFA, UEFA and International Tennis Federation (responsible for the Davis Cup). One of NTT Europe's online sporting highlights last year was the European Football Championship. All peak loads on the UEFA website euro2008.com were handled successfully by NTT Europe Online's virtualization and managed hosting technology.

Wide and cheap availability of cloud-based media services is upon us. 2011 was a year of rapid adoption for public and private cloud services. Instant and on-demand server provisioning was the driving force behind the massive growth.
