Willie Nelson, God, and Cloud Computing

Virtual Ark CEO Marty Gauvin Explains in Exclusive Interview

Virtual Ark Session at Cloud Expo

"He ain't wrong, he's just different, but his pride won't let him, do things to make you think he's right." Thus sang Willie Nelson 30 years ago in a duet with Waylon Jennings in a song written by Ed and Patsy Bruce.

The insight--at least the first part of it, being not wrong but different--is re-captured today by Virtual Ark CEO Marty Gauvin in an exclusive interview with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. Speaking about security and Cloud Computing, Gauvin notes, "Security in the Cloud isn't bad, it's just different...in the case of the Cloud-enabled applications, techniques such as encryption and overlay tools are available to meet significant security accreditation when implemented correctly."

Virtual Ark is the Platinum Sponsor of Cloud Expo, which will be held at the Javits Center in New York April 19-21. Gauvin's company is focused on delivering enterprise apps as SaaS, "with consumption-baced pricing similar to that delivered in public clouds," Gauvin says in the interview. He adds that the company is not a cloud vendor per se, but rather a "cloud expert that uses cloud services on behalf of its customers."

The company's name seems biblical in origin, referring perhaps to Noah's Ark or the Ark of the Covenant. Indeed, "an ark is the place where a civilization puts their most precious resources," notes Gauvin. "Therefore, the ‘virtual ark’ is the ideal metaphor for how enterprises must view their information and its migration to this new generation of services."

Most precious resources. This phrase strikes at the heart of the challenge of all companies who are helping drive enterprise IT to various cloud models.

As Gauvin notes in his interview with Jeremy, "Enterprises require a risk analysis process that systematically identifies and assesses the relevant aspects of the chosen computing model or service."

"This equips them to analyze risk by examining the technical and process dimensions of a specific implementation rather than trying to second-guess the security needs of a generic service identified as Cloud Computing." he says, adding that "because of our expertise and use of Public Cloud infrastructure services, Virtual Ark has virtually instant international reach enabling customers to use their applications globally, quickly and easily."

The full interview can be found in the online version of Cloud Computing Journal.

The precious oil is extracted from the seeds of prickly pear cactus plant. After taking out the seeds from the fruits, they are adequately dried and then cold pressed to obtain the oil. Indeed, the prickly seed oil is quite expensive. Well, that is understandable when you consider the fact that the seeds are really tiny and each seed contain only about 5% of oil in it at most, plus the seeds are usually handpicked from the fruits. This means it will take tons of these seeds to produce just one bottle of the oil for commercial purpose. But from its medical properties to its culinary importance, skin lightening, moisturizing, and protection abilities, down to its extraordinary hair care properties, prickly seed oil has got lots of excellent rewards for anyone who pays the price.
