Semaine du 14 juillet : la France défile et prend quelques jours de vacances.
Le lien avec l’informatique dans les nuages ? Le 14 juillet célèbre la Révolution française et la devise de la France :
Liberté, égalité, fraternité.
Je parle souvent dans ce blog de «révolution» à propos du Cloud et en particulier de la R2I, Révolution Industrielle informatique. Il m’est donc venu l’idée de proposer une devise pour cette révolution du Cloud :
Universalité, égalité, compétitivité
Pourquoi ? Les solutions Cloud Computing, et en particulier les applications en mode SaaS, universelles, sont aujourd’hui un facteur clef d’égalisation des chances entre toutes les entreprises qui peuvent augmenter leur compétitivité en s’appuyant sur cette nouvelle génération d’informatique.
Cette égalité des chances, c’est, probablement, le plus grand apport du Cloud Computing pour les entreprises.
Egalité forte devant les Infrastructures
Les trois composants d’une infrastructure Cloud sont bien connus :
- Des serveurs, clouds publics, gérés par des fournisseurs industriels : Amazon, Apple, Google, IBM ou Microsoft (ordre alphabétique !).
- Des réseaux d’accès à ces serveurs, en majorité sans fil : 3G, LTE, Wi-Fi...
- Des objets d’accès au Cloud, de plus en plus mobiles : smartphones, tablettes, laptop, netbook...
Deux de ces trois familles de composants, serveurs et objets d’accès, sont déjà vraiment universelles :
- Toutes les entreprises du monde, quel que soit leur taille ou leur pays, peuvent accéder aux serveurs des grands acteurs du Cloud public, et aux mêmes prix. Il y aura toujours quelques rares exceptions comme la Corée du Nord, Cuba ou l’Iran, les «trous noirs» d’Internet.
- Tout le monde peut aujourd’hui acheter le même iPhone, la même tablette Android ou un MacBook Air, à des prix raisonnablement proches.
C’est, pour le moment, moins vrai sur les réseaux d’accès : disponibilité, performances et coûts sont encore trop différents d’un pays à l’autre, d’une région à l’autre.
Il semblerait que le record mondial du coût d’accès Internet le plus élevé soit détenu par le Turkmenistan, à $7000 par mois, pour 2 Mbit/s !
Je reste raisonnablement optimiste sur le moyen terme : d’ici à 2015, ces disparités se seront fortement réduites. Plus important, le Mbit/s, vitesse suffisante pour pouvoir travailler raisonnablement sur le Cloud, sera disponible partout, à un coût raisonnable.
Beaucoup de pays l’ont compris et investissent en priorité sur des réseaux sans fil rapides pour tous.
La France fait encore bande à part avec son projet «FTTH pour tous», qui, si par malheur il était confirmé, nous ferait prendre dix ans de retard vis-à-vis de nos voisins.
Heureusement, des hommes politiques "raisonnables", comme le sénateur Hervé Maurey, commencent à réagir et à demander l’arrêt de ce non-sens technique et économique qui consiste à vouloir «fibrer la France dans ses moindres recoins».
Les deux grands «égalisateurs» réseaux sont :
Les réseaux Wi-Fi, avec leurs évolutions très rapides :
- Banalisation du Wi-Fi n, qui va monter jusqu’à 600 Mbit/s.
- Wi-Fi Direct, permettant des échanges «peer to peer» en Wi-Fi.
- Généralisation des hotspots gratuits, dans les hôtels, gares, aéroports, autobus, métros et avions.
- WiGig, la nouvelle génération, dont la vitesse initiale sera de 7 Gbit/s.
Les réseaux LTE (Long Term Evolution) et LTE - A (Advanced), la 4G (4e génération) des réseaux sans fil. Ils ont deux atouts clefs :
- très haut débit natif : les premières générations de réseaux LTE, déjà opérationnels, ont des performances impressionnantes.
Ce graphique correspond à des mesures, faites en mars 2011 en Finlande ; les vitesses d’accès mesurées moyennes sont comprises entre 30 et 40 Mbit/s. C’est dix fois plus rapide que la 3G, chez le même opérateur Telia Sonera.
Les nouvelles générations LTE -A vont monter rapidement vers des vitesses proches du Gbit/s en 2015.
- Un seul et même standard pour le monde entier : pour la première fois, tous les pays du monde auront, avec LTE-A, un standard commun. Ceci permettra à une personne, équipée d’un smartphone ou de tout autre objet mobile, de se connecter en très haut débit, partout dans le monde.
En attendant l’arrivée du LTE, les réseaux 3G+ actuels (HSPA) permettent déjà de travailler efficacement sur le Cloud dans la grande majorité des pays.
Résumé : les infrastructures Cloud Computing sont déjà très «égalitaires» ; elles le seront totalement d’ici 3 à 5 ans.
Egalité totale devant les applications SaaS
Petit rappel : une application SaaS :
- Est hébergée sur un Cloud public.
- Est accessible depuis un navigateur, sans installation sur le poste de travail.
- Est «multi-tenant», avec une seule version du code pour tous les clients.
- Chaque mise à jour, décidée par l’éditeur, est automatiquement et immédiatement utilisée par tous les clients.
Il existe des milliers d’excellentes applications SaaS qui répondent toutes à cette définition simple ; les lecteurs de ce blog les connaissent bien : Adaptative Planning, Amiando, Bime, Clarizen, Google Apps, RunMyProcess, Saba, Salesforce, Successfactors ... (encore par ordre alphabétique).
Conséquence de ces éléments spécifiques : les applications SaaS ont une caractéristique extraordinairement importante :
Il n’en existe qu’une seule version, la meilleure, pour tous les clients, quels qu’ils soient.
Il n’existe pas de versions meilleures ; il n’existe pas de versions pires ; il n’existe qu’une seule version de chaque application SaaS.
Une PME à Casablanca, une entreprise moyenne à Vienne ou une multinationale à San Francisco partagent exactement la même application !
Cette «égalisation par le haut» est une grande première dans le monde de l’informatique ; il n’y a plus de primes à la taille, au secteur d’activité, au pays où se trouve une entreprise.
Chaque entreprise peut, aujourd’hui, immédiatement, avoir accès aux meilleures applications du monde.
On n’a pas fini d’en mesurer les conséquences.
Impacts potentiels forts sur l’économie mondiale
L’informatique n’est pas le seul élément de compétitivité d’une entreprise, tout le monde en convient, mais c’est quand même une arme importante.
Les économistes mesurent depuis longtemps des indicateurs de compétitivité de chaque pays.
Le Cloud Computing et les solutions SaaS ne vont pas, du jour au lendemain, bouleverser cet équilibre mondial.
Par contre, intelligemment utilisées, ces technologies mettront au service des entreprises et des gouvernements des moyens puissants et immédiats d’accroitre leur «compétitivité», le troisième élément de ma devise pour le Cloud computing.
La recette de la «compétitivité informatique Cloud» n’est pas très compliquée :
- Mettre à disposition des collaborateurs des objets d’accès mobiles : la démarche AVOP, Apportez Vos Outils Personnels, permet d’aller encore plus vite.
- S’assurer que des réseaux mobiles haut débit sont disponibles, en tout lieu à toute heure.
- Déployer les outils SaaS universels, dont ont besoin toutes les entreprises : communication et collaboration, gestion commerciale, suivi budgétaire, pilotage RH, tableaux de bord...
- Investir sur la formation de tous les collaborateurs aux nouveaux usages.
Synthèse
Universalité, égalité, compétitivité
- Universalité des solutions disponibles.
- Egalité des chances pour toutes les entreprises.
- Accélérateur de compétitivité.
Les solutions Cloud Computing et SaaS ont vraiment beaucoup de qualités !
