Warren Buffett Buys Some Intel, Too

Grabs About $220 Million of the Chip Giant

Berkshire Hathaway's Q3 filing with the SEC late Monday revealed that besides taking a $10.7 billion flyer in IBM Warren Buffett also bought into 9.33 million shares of Intel, now valued at around $220 million.

In a move unusual for a man historically so averse to technology Buffett disclosed on CNBC earlier in the day that he had bought 5.5% of IBM, 64 million shares.

Since the Intel position is so much smaller than IBM the press suspects the Intel investment may be the work of Todd Combs, the hedge fund guy Buffett brought in this year to manage part of the portfolio.

Both IBM and Intel pay nice dividends.

Also new to Berkshire were investments in the satellite TV company DirecTV (4.2 million shares) and the CVS drug store chain (5.7 million shares).
