Symform Joins Cloud Security Alliance

Symform Brings Expertise in Cloud Security for Distributed Models to the Leading Cloud Security Association

SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/02/12 -- Symform, a revolutionary cloud storage and backup service, today announced it has joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA). The CSA is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing, and to provide education on the uses of cloud computing to help secure all other forms of computing.

"Symform's deep expertise in security will be a valuable addition to our organization as companies increasingly look to the cloud and distributed approaches to manage and protect their data," said Jim Reavis, executive director at the CSA. "Together with other CSA members, Symform will play a key role in both the advancement and implementation of cloud security initiatives and best practices."

As the market's first and largest distributed cloud storage network, Symform is committed to collaborating on and addressing security initiatives, industry standards, and the research and development of cloud computing standards. Symform's participation in the CSA is an extension of the company's existing commitment to cloud security, particularly in a decentralized architecture. Symform is SSAE 16 certified and holds two patents for its global cloud storage network architecture and technology. The Symform solution leverages strong encryption and security processes across the network to provide a level of data protection beyond what traditional, centralized data center-based cloud storage services can offer.

"At Symform, protecting and preserving our customers' data is the top priority," said Margaret Dawson, vice president of product management and marketing at Symform. "Our management team has deep roots in cloud security, and we look forward to helping the CSA achieve its mission and collaborating with like-minded leaders to help drive the future of cloud security."

Like the CSA, Symform often conducts industry market research to better understand market trends and to inform its product roadmap. The company is currently conducting research on Cloud Security. Professionals and businesses wanting to share their opinions and experiences with cloud security are encouraged to participate in this Cloud Security Survey. Respondents will receive a copy of the final research results prior to publication. Respondent information is not shared with any third parties, and results will be aggregated with all individual responses kept anonymous.

About Symform
The Symform Cloud Storage Network is a better way to store and backup all of your data. As the world's first distributed and crowdsourced data backup solution, Symform enables users to pay with bytes instead of bucks. Every business on the network contributes excess local drive space to the grid in exchange for secure, fast and reliable cloud data backup. Before data leaves the source device, it is encrypted and shredded, redundancy added, and then geo-distributed across the global network. With its proprietary and patented technology, Symform is building the world's largest virtual data center using existing Internet infrastructure. Go to www.symform.com or email info@symform.com.

The new open source cloud orchestration platform called OpenStack is the promise of flexible network virtualization, and network overlays are looking closer than ever. The vision of this platform is to enable the on-demand creation of many distinct networks on top of one underlying physical infrastructure in the cloud environment. The platform will support automated provisioning and management of large groups of virtual machines or compute resources, including extensive monitoring in the cloud.
In his session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Dave Eichorn, Global Data Center Practice Head at Zensar, will share a case study describing how a utility services company handled the migration of its Microsoft platform to the cloud. Challenged with the time-consuming task of opening operations out of temporary offices, this company struggled with the need to simultaneously access data that was accumulated from a vast amount of data-intensive jobs. Zensar migrated the company’s application ...

Whether you are building your own cloud infrastructure, building a public cloud or choosing a cloud service, there are key strategy and technology decisions that make the difference between success and failure. In his General Session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Jason Waxman, VP in the Intel Architecture Group and general manager of the Cloud Platforms Group within Inte...
You're getting pitched every day from your legacy enterprise software and hardware vendors about "cloud." They're doing an amazing job of convincing your CIO and CTO about what cloud is and how you should use it. The reality is they're defending their shrinking market share and keeping you on the legacy treadmill for as long as they can by selling you solutions that aren't "cloud." In her session at the 12th International Cloud Expo, Niki Acosta, Cloud Evangelista for Rackspace, will talk thro...
The rise of cloud computing has exposed hard drive-based storage as the new data center bottleneck. Combating this, data center managers have deployed SSDs to gain the performance needed to provide real-time access to data. However, due to budget constraints, many have turned to consumer-grade SSDs without understanding that they wear out quickly when processing enterprise workloads. In this session, Esther Spanjer will discuss recent endurance advancements in SSD technology that enable usage of...
