Long Lines Employees Celebrate Wireless Services

Long Lines will begin Offering Wireless telephone in Western Iowa this Summer

SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Long Lines, LLC employees will gather at Long Lines headquarters in Sergeant Bluff at 3:00 p.m. today to celebrate months of hard work getting ready to launch wireless telephone services to customers in the region. Long Lines Wireless customers will enjoy the most clear and reliable local network available and highly competitive national and international calling packages.

"Long Lines employees have worked tirelessly to bring this new service to market. We are infinitely proud of what we have accomplished in a few short months," said Chuck Robbins, President of Long Lines Wireless. "The whole Long Lines team is excited about offering the best cellular service available coupled with Long Lines homegrown customer service."

Late last year, Long Lines Announced the acquisition of Great Lakes of Iowa, Inc. (GLI) and Siouxland PCS (Siouxland), two wireless service providers serving Northwestern Iowa. Long Lines also acquired a 155-mile fiber network from Hinton, Iowa to the Okoboji region that will permit better and faster communications services for Long Lines customers in that area.

Long Lines Wireless(R) will begin providing wireless service in NE Nebraska, SE South Dakota and western Iowa later this summer. The PCS network permits use of the most popular wireless phones available in the market, including Motorola's RAZR(TM) and the latest phones from Sony Ericcson, Nokia, and LG.

Long Lines Wireless(R) customers will be offered highly competitive usage packages and will have access to a worldwide network rivaling that of any other regional and national carrier. As a local carrier, Long Lines Wireless(R) will be able to provide coverage in hard-to-serve areas currently missed by the national carriers.

Today's celebration caps more than a year's efforts to erect and equip a wireless network connected to the Long Lines switch in Sergeant Bluff. By the customer launch this summer, Long Lines will have approximately 70 towers in service with an additional 51 towers up by year-end. A new telephone switch has been installed to handle the increased traffic and billing, data and numerous other communications systems have been put in place.

Long Lines, LLC works with other local service providers and municipalities to provide the most up-to-date telephone, cable television, high-speed internet, and wireless features to Siouxland customers in innovative service packages using the latest technology. Long Lines offers unique packages of telephone, television, internet, and wireless services to more than 100 communities in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Long Lines is focused on building communication networks that meet the needs of rural communities and urban centers in the Upper Midwest.

Cloud is a shift from the focus on underlying technology implementation to leveraging existing implementations and further building upon them. Cloud orchestration or a network of clouds is the wave of the future where these clouds can operate with elasticity, scalability, and efficiency. Effective service management is an important aspect of managing such networks. The transition to the cloud will enable the further aggregation of composite web services and enhanced business-to-business capabili...

2011 was a year of rapid adoption for public and private cloud services. Instant and on-demand server provisioning was the driving force behind the massive growth. On top, cloud server templates and script automation simplified application installation for simple and pre-defined application stacks, but have not targeted more complex enterprise application environments. As more enterprises are adopting clouds, the nature of cloud computing is changing. Previously, clouds were used to test applications or for non-mission critical applications. Building a cloud computing environment with on-demand access to compute, network, and storage resources requires an elastic infrastructure at multiple levels. Virtualization combined with x86 servers has transformed the way we scale out compute resources. Unfortunately, legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage architectures are rooted in rigid mainframe-era designs, and are fundamentally mismatched with the dynamic, shared modern data center.
