Media Release: Media Advisory – The Canadian Potential for ‘BPaaS’ Innovation

The Canada Cloud Network (CanadaCloud.net) is identifying ‘BPaaS’ as an important step forward for cloud computing and an uniquely exciting growth opportunity for Canadian Cloud start-ups. Furthermore, CanadaCloud.net is announcing BPaaS as a major focus area for its collaborative industry R&D program – the Canada Cloud Roadmap.

WireService.ca Media Release – October 9th, 2012

Business Process-as-a-Service is clearly defined as:

· Encapsulating an offer for all or part of a business model

· Adding mature industry practices onto SaaS solutions layer

· Adding IP value directly without the costs of development

· Implementing changes to work/document flow dynamically

BPaaS builds an additional layer on the NIST defined IaaS/PaaS/SaaS layers for cloud computing. BPaaS offers the ultimate scenario for customers seeking to be freed from all IT-level issues of dealing with software or hardware configuration, where a Cloud Provider will deliver them a service purely in business terms. For example, a customer handling procedure at the business process level, not the underlying CRM software or the servers that it runs on.

Globally analysts are beginning to recognize BPaaS as a high-growth segment: Aberdeen’s lead analyst has begun to track the sector, and in a September press release Gartner predicts

“The public cloud services market is forecast to grow 19.6 percent in 2012 to total $109 billion worldwide, according to Gartner, Inc. Business process services (also known as business process as a service, or BPaaS) represent the largest segment, accounting for about 77 percent of the total market, while infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is the fastest-growing segment of the public cloud services market and is expected to grow 45.4 percent in 2012.”

An illustrative case study is the Province of Ontario. Their IT team uses the powerful Microsoft Sharepoint FAST Search engine software, but the departmental customers are presented with a business process service: a ‘service locator’ function that enables citizens to find the nearest government office relevant to their needs.

Another scenario that illustrates the value of this model, spotlighted by the Canadian Cloud in this briefing is Boardsuite.

Entrepreneurs starting and growing new companies are faced with a myriad of complex legal and administrative procedures related to board compliance, governance and overall board communications and process needs that must be followed to avoid significant costs and risks if not followed correctly. Best practices in this field include Policy Governance, by worldwide renowned expert John Carver. BoardSuite provides “Policy Governance-as-a-Service” – They encode these boardroom best practices and make them repeatable via an on demand BPaaS.

BoardSuite has redefined the board portal for Public Listed companies, small and medium enterprises and not-for-profit organizations by providing a 100% FREE BPaaS-based solution to manage real-time access to corporate documents, collaboration tools and a Marketplace of business services from a single point of entry within a secure, hosted application, resulting in effective and transparent corporate governance.

Today BoardSuite remains focused on expanding and enhancing its Marketplace of content, services and functionality for its core offering to make the service the defacto standard for good corporate governance and regulatory compliance.

BoardSuite has received notable recognition within the online industry for its achievements. In March 2011 BoardSuite was select one of the Top 15 Companies to watch by AlwaysOn onDemand2011. In July 2009, BoardSuite was selected as one of Canada’s leading Web 2.0 pioneers by KPMG and Backbone magazine at the PICK20 Awards, the only national roundup of Canada’s up and coming Web 2.0 pioneers who are leading the 2.0 evolution of the Web. And, in August 2009, BoardSuite was named by IDC as one of Canada’s Top Cloud Computing Solutions To Watch calling it a disruptive innovation in the board portal industry.

BoardSuite have identified that specifically for boardroom governance, compliance services, there is a market of $1.2 Billion, where they are uniquely positioned as currently the only BPaaS offering.

End.

If zettabytes of data exist, why is less than 1% of the world’s data being analyzed today? Seasoned entrepreneur and startup CEO Radhika Subramanian believes that the inability to analyze and gain value from Big Data is that organizations are taking a services-centered approach. As the title of the session implies, Subramanian believes that the data needs to do the talking, not armies of analysts searching and querying databases.
