Thousands of Mexican Students Using New Learning Platform

BERGEN, Norway, November 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

New education technology launched in Mexico this autumn is gaining popularity at schools across the country. The itslearning platform, an online classroom that aids the teaching and learning process, is now used by 5,000 students at six schools in Mexico. This reflects a growing need for learning platforms at educational institutions in Mexico.

Norway-based itslearning, which has millions of users across North America and Europe, was launched at two private schools in Monterrey in June. Following successful implementations at those schools, the platform was launched in Mexico City in early October at two events that were attended by representatives from some of Mexico's largest universities, including Universidad de las Americas, Universidad Anahuac, Tec Milenio and Universidad Panamericana. In total, representatives from over 60 schools attended the events.

Genaro Peña, director general of Grupo Staff, itslearning's reseller in Mexico, recently presented itslearning to officials from the Mexican Department of Education. He said the officials were impressed with itslearning's ability to educate students living in remote areas, a challenge facing both Mexico and Norway.

Jan Åge Skaathun, Manager of Global Sales and Partners at itslearning, anticipates 100,000 itslearning users in Mexico by 2013 as more schools choose the platform. "In Mexico, there is a willingness to close the gap with Europe and North America in terms of using technology in education," Skaathun says.

itslearning is a natural choice for government officials looking to equip students with ICT skills. The platform represents a modern solution that ensures equal access to education for all students, Skaathun says. "Today in Mexico, there is a transition to moving the curriculum to the internet. This is where we see itslearning taking the initiative from the government to the next stage," he says.

Jan Åge Skaathun, Manager of Global Sales and Partners at itslearning

"We have visited many schools in Mexico, and educators and administrators see clear benefits to using itslearning. They really want to embrace it. We really think itslearning can make a positive difference in Mexico."

Genaro Peña, Director General, Grupo Staff

"We are very happy with the response to itslearning from the schools here in Mexico. It has been a success."

"The officials from the Ministry of Education were really happy with the platform. They see that itslearning solves the same challenges in Norway as we face in Mexico. That's the most important thing for them - offering a standard education to all students in Mexico, regardless of their remote location. They see that itslearning can help with this."

Quick facts:

  • In June 2012, Liceo de Monterrey became the first school in Mexico to use itslearning
  • itslearning currently has 7,150 users at five schools and two universities in Mexico
  • Geographic similarities between Mexico and Norway make itslearning an ideal platform for both countries
  • In 2013, itslearning is estimated to have 100,000 users in Mexico
