Online Tech Wins Fifth FastTrack Award for Outstanding Business Success

Online Tech, the leader in secure and compliant data center hosting, was named the winner of a FastTrack Award for outstanding business success. Ann Arbor SPARK, a local economic development agency, will honor the winners at an event Friday, November 2. To be eligible, Washtenaw County-based companies must demonstrate a 20 percent revenue growth rate for three successive years.

It’s the fifth time Online Tech has received the FastTrack Award since 2006.

Online Tech has averaged more than 30 percent annual growth since 2003, when new owners made significant investments in its data center and network infrastructure to make it one of Michigan's largest managed data center operators. The company was founded in 1994 as one of the state’s first Internet Service Providers.

That track record of growth got a boost in mid-September when Online Tech received a $20 million investment from News-Press & Gazette Company to help it expand into new markets. The company – which currently operates two data centers in Ann Arbor and one in Flint – plans to add four more data centers to the company’s portfolio over the next 24 months.

“Online Tech has built the leading data center operating company in Michigan and did so during some very difficult economic times,” Online Tech CEO Yan Ness said. “Our people stepped up to the plate, worked a little harder and we’ve earned the loyal support of an expanding list of great clients around the Great Lakes region. With our recent investment, we look forward to continued growth as we expand into additional markets across the Midwest.”

Spurred by the impending growth, Online Tech recently added four members to its management team. Director of Business Development Michael Kowal and Director of Human Resources Deb Webster were hired by Online Tech while Director of Sales Don Trojan and Systems Support Manager Steven Aiello were promoted from within.

“Trust is an ongoing journey and sits at the foundation of any vendor relationship – the companies that don’t consistently earn trust won’t be around long,” noted Henrik Rosendahl, Senior VP of Cloud Solutions at Quantum, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. “As they do more with cloud, trust will organically grow – maybe it’s just about meeting SLAs or seeing firsthand that data is there when you need it,” Rosendahl continued. If zettabytes of data exist, why is less than 1% of the world’s data being analyzed today? Seasoned entrepreneur and startup CEO Radhika Subramanian believes that the inability to analyze and gain value from Big Data is that organizations are taking a services-centered approach. As the title of the session implies, Subramanian believes that the data needs to do the talking, not armies of analysts searching and querying databases. Her company has developed high-speed, advanced algorithms to autom...
Cloud enables SMBs to access new, scalable resources – previously only available to enterprises – in flexible and cost-effective ways. McKinsey’s SMB Cloud Report projects the public cloud market to reach $40-$50 billion by 2015, with SMBs comprising 65% of public cloud spending in 2015. But selling cloud to SMBs raises the questions of who, what and how. In this session Manjula Talreja, VP of Cisco’s Global Cloud Business Development Team, will discuss the importance of knowing who SMB...
