Actuate Names FirstBank, and LACSD, as Winners of 2012 Customer Excellence Awards

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The BIRT Company™ – delivering more insights to more people than all BI companies combined – today announced that it has recognized FirstBank of Denver, Colorado, and County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (LACSD), with 2012 Excellence Awards in the “BIRT Implementation” category.

FirstBank: Cost Savings and Time Savings for Thousands of End Users

FirstBank was recognized for its implementation of BIRT and ActuateOne® to develop a single-environment, highly efficient and integrated enterprise reporting structure that can be managed by BI developers to ease the burden on the company’s Java and Windows developers. The solution – built for thousands of FirstBank users – reduces integration complexity and development costs by increasing speed and ease of report development. It provides the flexibility to integrate and combine data sources, and supports planned future enhancements including mobile delivery and a self-service platform. The solution includes ActuateOne v11 with Oracle Advanced Security in a VMware virtualized environment.

By deploying this solution among thousands of users and multiple branches, FirstBank has estimated they were able to cut run time by 90% on long-running reports and saved development time by up to 50%. Further, by leveraging Actuate resources like BIRT Exchange, they were able to pull LDAP information, along with related information from a web service and a database. Prior to the adoption of ActuateOne, FirstBank could not combine all of these data sources into one report, nor make all that information seamlessly available to the end user.

“With Actuate, we found a platform that is easy to learn, incredibly fast, and scalable to all of our needs – we were able to improve efficiency with quicker report deployment and time to market,” said Ryan Buerger, Distributed Applications Manager for FirstBank. “In the future, we expect to streamline further, by converting or eliminating all non-Actuate reports, including 200 Crystal reports, with the help of Actuate’s Professional Services team.”

LACSD: Driving the Bottom Line with Effective Dashboards

The County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (LACSD), California, was recognized for its implementation of BIRT and ActuateOne to provide all users with custom reporting and dashboards that visualize high-level information intuitively, but can also easily and quickly reveal detailed transaction data behind the scenes. The solution supported LACSD’s objective of leveraging critical business information in its work and asset management solution to drive decision-making at many levels in the organization. For example, new dashboards communicate real time information on how much fleet vehicles cost to run, or help identify future savings in preventive maintenance. LACSD has been using Actuate for 10 years among more than 400 developers and end users.

"The concept of one server having that information housed all in the same place and – I think more importantly – in the same recognizable format of the information object, is incredibly useful because it translates in all the different packages no matter what level the user’s experience is,” said Sean Christian, Senior Engineer at LACSD. “Using the Actuate product, we’ve increased our cost savings and scalability, and we’ve discovered many ways to better leverage the data we already have. It’s evolving into a communication tool.”

Winners of the Actuate Excellence awards were honored this morning at ActuateOne Live! in San Francisco.
