Intergraph® Leverages Leica Geosystems' TruView to Connect Engineering Design Basis with Reality

Users of Intergraph's cPLM product SmartPlant® Foundation and SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators can now benefit from intuitive, photorealistic access to asset documentation and data on PCs or mobile devices

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Intergraph®, the world's leading enterprise engineering software provider, today introduced a Leica TruView Integrator for SmartPlant® Enterprise as well as offline mobile device support for SmartPlant® Enterprise for Owner Operators (SPO).

The new SmartPlant Enterprise/SPO TruView Integrator enables end-users to use photorealistic and intelligent TruView laser scans as an intuitive portal to access all plant information and documentation in SmartPlant Foundation. The new SPO Mobile Core and SPO Mobile Operating Plant solutions go one step further and leverage these intuitive, photorealistic access options to support day-to-day plant operations and activities such as maintenance, inspection and equipment isolation in online and offline mode.

Ludwig Englmaier, head of the Engineering Department for AlzChem AG, said, "We have been using Intergraph tools for many years to manage the virtual plant asset for our plants at AlzChem. We recently selected SPO and will be rolling it into production over the coming weeks. We are excited about SPO Mobile Apps with TruView Integrator, and will be seeking to implement them as soon as possible.

"We believe these will help us bring the immense value of the virtual plant asset directly to workers on the plant floor. Today, plant workers performing inspection and maintenance activities spend too much time locating the items they need in the plant. SPO Mobile with photorealistic TruView visualization will help our plant workers carry out their work safer, quicker and better than ever."

Bill Van Butzelaar, Woodside Operations, Business Improvement Manager, Woodside Energy Limited, said, "The use of a photorealistic representation of a plant as an intuitive user interface into asset information will drive significant improvements in efficiency. With laser scanning and photo capture, the time to capture 'as-exists' physical asset information is greatly reduced. When combined with the rapid capture of other plant information using Intergraph's SmartPlant Fusion, the time required to find and access specific plant data or documentation on a daily basis is dramatically reduced.

"Additionally, when you consider the reduction in health and safety risks as a result of reduced on-site time, it becomes very obvious that photorealistic plant information browsers will play a very important role in the industry in the future."

Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process Power & Marine president, said, "It is hard to imagine a more intuitive way to access plant engineering information than by means of a photorealistic plant browser. Our new Leica TruView Integrator will allow everybody at any plant to derive maximum value from the technical asset management information in SmartPlant Foundation.

"With the SPO Mobile solutions we are now bringing the technical asset information where it's needed on a daily basis for the different operations and maintenance activities. We are bringing it to the plant floor and remote operations locations where there is no network connectivity. These are game-changing and unmatched solutions that will significantly improve the way engineering assets are maintained."

Leading plant owners choose SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators to enable them to rapidly implement Intergraph's preconfigured business processes to support both CAPEX and OPEX phases of the plant life cycle. SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators is specifically designed for asset owners to enhance plant safety, reliability, and interoperability, while ensuring information integrity across the owner operator system landscape.

SmartPlant Foundation is the world's No.1 standards-based Capital Project Life Cycle Management (cPLM) solution with proven performance in the process, power, and marine industries. It has been selected as the information management and integration system of choice by hundreds of companies, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) organizations, and owner operators worldwide in projects both large and small.

Free Leica TruView software allows anyone to panoramically view and quickly measure rich, laser scan point cloud data and corresponding digital images without having to be an expert in 3D, CAD or point cloud software. Users can extract real 3D coordinates and measure distances, with results appearing immediately right on the point cloud image. TruView users can also generate markups, view proposed designs in their real world context, link to asset information, and readily share TruViews with peers, service providers or clients for more effective project communications and collaboration, even over the Internet. Qualified developers can also integrate Leica TruView into third-party software as an intuitive use interface for quickly accessing "as-is" scene information.

Smart Cities are here to stay, but for their promise to be delivered, the data they produce must not be put in new siloes. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Mathias Herberts, Co-founder and CTO of Cityzen Data, discussed the best practices that will ensure a successful smart city journey.
Enterprise networks are complex. Moreover, they were designed and deployed to meet a specific set of business requirements at a specific point in time. But, the adoption of cloud services, new business applications and intensifying security policies, among other factors, require IT organizations to continuously deploy configuration changes. Therefore, enterprises are looking for better ways to automate the management of their networks while still leveraging existing capabilities, optimizing perf...

He also discussed how clouds, open source software and infrastructure solutions have benefits but also drawbacks and how workload and operational portability between vendors an...
Adding public cloud resources to an existing application can be a daunting process. The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, ...
With the proliferation of both SQL and NoSQL databases, organizations can now target specific fit-for-purpose database tools for their different application needs regarding scalability, ease of use, ACID support, etc. Platform as a Service offerings make this even easier now, enabling developers to roll out their own database infrastructure in minutes with minimal management overhead. However, this same amount of flexibility also comes with the challenges of picking the right tool, on the right ...
Data is an unusual currency; it is not restricted by the same transactional limitations as money or people. In fact, the more that you leverage your data across multiple business use cases, the more valuable it becomes to the organization. And the same can be said about the organization’s analytics. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Bill Schmarzo, CTO for the Big Data Practice at Dell EMC, introduced a methodology for capturing, enriching and sharing data (and analytics) across the organization...

Due of the rise of Hadoop, many enterprises are now deploying their first small clusters of 10 to 20 servers. At this small scale, the complexity of operating the cluster looks and feels like general data center servers. It is not until the clusters scale, as they inevitably do, when the pain caused by the exponential complexity becomes apparent. We've seen this problem occur time and time again. In his session at Big Data Expo, Greg Bruno, Vice President of Engineering and co-founder of StackIQ...
One of the hottest areas in cloud right now is DRaaS and related offerings. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Dale Levesque, Disaster Recovery Product Manager with Windstream's Cloud and Data Center Marketing team, will discuss the benefits of the cloud model, which far outweigh the traditional approach, and how enterprises need to ensure that their needs are properly being met.
IoT is at the core or many Digital Transformation initiatives with the goal of re-inventing a company's business model. We all agree that collecting relevant IoT data will result in massive amounts of data needing to be stored. However, with the rapid development of IoT devices and ongoing business model transformation, we are not able to predict the volume and growth of IoT data. And with the lack of IoT history, traditional methods of IT and infrastructure planning based on the past do not app...
Up until last year, enterprises that were looking into cloud services usually undertook a long-term pilot with one of the large cloud providers, running test and dev workloads in the cloud. With cloud’s transition to mainstream adoption in 2015, and with enterprises migrating more and more workloads into the cloud and in between public and private environments, the single-provider approach must be revisited. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Yoav Mor, multi-cloud solution evangelist at Cloudy...
