Welcome to SMAC News Weekly, featuring the latest news and numbers relating to SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) that I come across each week.

Each of us is impacted by SMAC.  We all use mobile devices and social networking solutions like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  We use search engines, maps and weather apps, all of which use analytics and are in the cloud.  SMAC is the combination of all of these trends coming together on mobile devices.  This convergence is impacting businesses in many different ways.  We will do our best to capture these by reporting on the SMAC trends, numbers and forecasts in this weekly newsletter.

According to the Senior Vice President and Chief Analyst at IDC, the IT industry as a whole is moving toward the mobile/social/cloud/big data world of the 3rd Platform much more quickly than many realize, from 2013 through 2020, these technologies will drive nearly 90 percent of all the growth in the IT market. According to Gartner the big data analysis industry is worth $34 billion, a business that is expected to create 4.4 million information technology jobs by 2015, including 1.9 million jobs in the United States, according to IT consulting firm Gartner. Read Original Content

Cloud computing, the third wave of IT, is one of the fastest-growing emerging industries in the world with ever-expanding uses for both governments and enterprises. According to the latest quarterly IT Spending Report from Gartner, the global public cloud service market, which exceeded $91 billion in 2011, is expected to increase by 19 percent to $109 billion by the end of 2012. HP has announced details about its new StoreAll Storage, a highly scalable platform for unstructured data with converged object and file storage services for up to 16 petabytes of data with billions of objects and files in a single name space. Read Original Content

The report, “Business Cloud: The State of Play Shifts Rapidly: Fresh Insights into Cloud Adoption Trends” reveals that while the Cloud market cannot yet be defined as fully mature, 81 percent of organizations are using Cloud technologies to some degree and are either maturing or are close to maturity in terms of their Cloud adoption.

Jaspersoft, the intelligence inside apps and business processes, today announced it is supporting Amazon Redshift, the company's new data warehouse service that was announced at the company's re:Invent conference. The service will offer a powerful Big Data analytics solution that can either be embedded inside applications or run standalone. Read Original Content

German based business management software provider has released its Predictive Analysis software, which claimed to help businesses gain insights from big data for prediction of business trends. SAP said the new application can be used as a separate application or can be deployed with other SAP software, including the SAP HANA platform. Read Original Content
