New Product Enables Developers to Integrate Powerful Image Processing Functions into Their Own Mobile Applications
Theale, UK (December 6, 2012) — ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, today announced the availability of the ABBYY Mobile Imaging Software Development Kit (SDK) for Apple® iOS and Google® Android®. The ABBYY Mobile Imaging SDK provides developers with smart tools for enhancing the viewing quality of images of documents captured with a mobile device's camera. As document capture scenarios involving mobile devices are becoming increasingly popular, the new SDK also offers special instruments used to determine whether or not photographed documents are suitable for Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
The ABBYY Mobile Imaging SDK is an ideal technology for solutions combining cloud-based or on-premise backend systems (i.e. CRM and ERP systems) with a mobile client application as an alternative way of feeding documents and data. It provides special functions for customers that require the highest accuracy of text recognition on documents captured with mobile devices. The technology detects blurred photos of text, or images with uneven and poor lighting before they are sent to an OCR engine or service for further processing. Depending on the customer's needs, ABBYY Mobile Imaging technology can both filter out low quality photos by using special detectors and improve viewing quality of captured images with text.
"Photographs from mobile cameras are not always taken under the optimal conditions in regards to camera angle, lighting, etc. Our new technologies can make photographed documents look like scanner-quality images." commented Katya Solntseva, Director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY.
With the image pre-processing functionality integrated in a mobile device, photographs of documents can be adjusted for better viewing before archiving, publishing or sharing them with customers, partners or colleagues. The ABBYY Mobile Imaging SDK corrects typical photo distortions including 3D perspective/trapezium distortions, page orientation, and image noise. It also offers image editing functions such as manual and auto crop, edge detection, image sharpening, binarization, inversion, gray scale, brightness adjustment and more. In addition to the individual image correction options, the ABBYY Mobile Imagine SDK offers preset tasks for the most typical scenarios such as processing of color documents, black-and-white documents, business cards, receipts, stamped papers, street shots and more. The product also supports the export of processed images to PDF, JPEG and PNG formats.
In combination with ABBYY's OCR and document capture toolkits such as the ABBYY FlexiCapture Engine SDK or the ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK, the new image enhancement technology helps organizations effectively use mobile devices as a reliable instrument for document and data input and an integral part of the corporate infrastructure. Mobile document input can be truly helpful in various industries such as healthcare, banking and insurance, or for government agencies, social services and other organizations that have a distributed network of offices and mobile workers "in the field". The superior quality of ABBYY's imaging technologies, optimized for documents, allows users to effectively process information from insurance claims, tax declarations, passports, driver licenses, payment orders, various customer applications and other documents for which accuracy is important.
The ABBYY Mobile Imaging SDK is available worldwide. To learn more about the product or request a trial version, please visit www.abbyy.com/mobile_imaging_SDK or contact your local ABBYY office.

The major cloud platforms defy a simple, side-by-side analysis. Each of the major IaaS public-cloud platforms offers their own unique strengths and functionality. Options for on-site private cloud are diverse as well, and must be designed and deployed while taking existing legacy architecture and infrastructure into account. Then the reality is that most enterprises are embarking on a hybrid cloud strategy and programs. In this Power Panel at 15th Cloud Expo (http://www.CloudComputingExpo.com...

Docker offers a new, lightweight approach to application portability. Applications are shipped using a common container format and managed with a high-level API. Their processes run within isolated namespaces that abstract the operating environment independently of the distribution, versions, network setup, and other details of this environment. This "containerization" has often been nicknamed "the new virtualization." But containers are more than lightweight virtual machines. Beyond their small...

The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps become...
