Imation Launches Secure Online Backup Services to Protect Business Data

Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), a global scalable storage and data security company, today announced its new Imation Backup Services, cloud-based online backup for secure business data protection. Available in the United States and Canada, Imation ONE Backup Service safeguards desktops and laptops, and Imation PRO Backup Service protects servers, desktops and laptops. Both Imation ONE and Imation PRO offer effective and affordable cloud storage to meet the backup and fast recovery needs of businesses.

Imation ONE and Imation PRO deliver efficient backup and fast recovery, using industry-leading data efficiency and compression techniques and patented software to minimize data size, number of files, and bandwidth impact. The result is a service to provide both a failsafe for businesses without any data protection in place, or to fit seamlessly within a tiered storage architecture by adding an important offsite layer.

“Many businesses still don’t back up their data, despite the obvious risks of possible data loss. Cloud backup services provide one option, yet many businesses are reluctant to rely on cloud storage for sensitive data,” said Tom Gelson, director, Business Development, Imation. “Imation ONE and Imation PRO online backup and recovery services deliver a unique combination of affordable and scalable backup with comprehensive security features to support full integration into a company's IT data protection strategy.”

Unique features of Imation ONE and Imation PRO include:

  • Duplicate backup for enhanced data protection;
  • Military-grade encryption, to prevent data breaches and support regulatory compliance; and,
  • An easy-to-use management portal for web-based restore, lock-down, and reporting.

Imation ONE Backup Service delivers unlimited backup for business data on all company computers for one low price per month. The service is applicable for laptops and desktops running Windows XP and newer Windows operating systems.

Imation PRO Backup Service delivers online backup for business servers, with mission-critical protection against accidental data deletion or catastrophic data loss. Imation PRO works on all Windows-based desktops, laptops and business servers using Windows Server 2003 and newer.

“Two of the hottest trends in data protection are the better use of backup appliances and the inclusion of a cloud-based tier in one’s broader data protection strategy,” said Jason Buffington, senior data protection analyst at ESG. “Between Imation’s pedigree in tape, its DataGuard disk-based appliances, and now a cloud-service, it is apparent that Imation wants to play at every tier of data protection.”

Adding the Cloud Tier
Businesses implement tiered storage to cost effectively manage growth of unstructured data. Imation offers businesses storage backup and archiving solutions within all tiers: online, nearline, offline through Imation storage media including hard disk drives, RDX® removable drives and tape, and offsite storage now available through Imation ONE and Imation PRO cloud storage services.

Pricing and Availability
Imation ONE and Imation PRO are currently available in the United States and Canada via direct registration and installation through Imation’s website. Machine learning provides predictive models which a business can apply in countless ways to better understand its customers and operations. Since machine learning was first developed with flat, tabular data in mind, it is still not widely understood: when does it make sense to use graph databases and machine learning in combination? This talk tackles the question from two ends: classifying predictive analytics methods and assessing graph database attributes. It also examines the ongoing lifecycle for machine learning in production. From this analysis it builds a framework for seeing where machine learning on a graph can be advantageous.'
