Ultimate Ranks #9 on FORTUNE’s 2013 List of the “100 Best Companies to Work For”

Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading cloud provider of people management solutions, announced today that Ultimate has again been named to FORTUNE magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Ultimate is the only human capital management provider on this prestigious list and the highest ranked cloud technology provider.

FORTUNE chooses the 100 Best Companies to Work For by partnering with the Great Place to Work Institute each year to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. More than 277,000 employees from participating companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on company responses to the institute’s Culture Audit. Some of the other companies on the 2013 list along with Ultimate are: Google, Dreamworks, Mercedes-Benz, Whole Foods, Microsoft, Capital One, American Express, Goldman Sachs, Starbucks, and Federal Express.

“Ultimate began as a small team of people who had full trust in the initial vision. They were hard working and talented, and we wanted to take care of them. Twenty-three years later, our strong commitment to our employees is still the same. We thank our more than 1,600 employees today for making this recognition and many other successes happen for us,” said Scott Scherr, CEO, president, and founder of Ultimate.

“Putting employees first is the keystone of Ultimate’s foundational values, and we believe this guiding principle sets us apart from other providers in the human capital management (HCM) market. We are very honored to be the only HCM provider on the list,” added Scherr.

All of us at Ultimate want to extend our congratulations to our customers that also made FORTUNE’s 2013 Best Companies to Work For list. Some are: Baker Donelson, Camden Property Trust, The Container Store, Google, JM Family Enterprises, NuStar Energy, Perkins Coie, and Quicken Loans—with a special congratulations to Google for ranking #1 for the last two years.

Ultimate develops, supports, and distributes cloud technology solutions for human resources, payroll, and talent management to companies of nearly all sizes in diverse industries. Ultimate helps organizations manage their workforces strategically and cost-effectively by providing business intelligence analytics and administrative functionality in such areas as talent acquisition and onboarding, human resources management and compliance, benefits management and online enrollment, payroll, performance management, salary planning and budgeting for compensation management, succession management, career development, and time and attendance management.

Previous to our current ranking of #9 on FORTUNE’s 2013 list, Ultimate was ranked #25 on the 2012 FORTUNE list and #1 on the medium-size company list of “Best Places to Work” in both 2008 and 2009 by The Great Place to Work Institute, the same organization that evaluates companies for the FORTUNE list.

The full 2013 list is available today exclusively on FORTUNE’s iPad App. The 2013 list and related stories will appear on FORTUNE’S Web site tomorrow morning, January 17, at www.Fortune.com/BestCompanies and in the February 4 issue of FORTUNE magazine, which will be at newsstands on Monday, January 21.
