Embarcadero Announces Platform for Successful Data Governance

New release of ER/Studio XE3 delivers metadata governance and syndication for collaboration and productivity

MAIDENHEAD, UK - Jan 22, 2013 - Embarcadero Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for application and database development, announced its new Metadata Governance strategy, the industry's only solution that lets organisations leverage diverse data—easily and practically—across Information Management and the software development lifecycle for successful data governance initiatives. The strategy spans the entire Embarcadero product portfolio using metadata discovery, management and syndication. Alongside this the company released ER/Studio XE3, a major upgrade to the award-winning ER/Studio line of database modeling tools that significantly enhances enterprise modeling and impact analysis for interpreting a wider variety of metadata more accurately.

Successful data governance requires providing a comprehensive picture of all data assets—whether they reside in hardware, the cloud, or in a central on premise repository—and making that valuable data available to IT professionals and decision makers. Until now this process has been overly complicated, fragmented and costly for businesses. And it's only going to get more complicated with analysts forecasting an explosion of mobile, cloud, transactional and behavioral data over the coming years.

Embarcadero's Metadata Governance Platform: The Onramp to Successful Data Governance
The importance of metadata in data governance is critical to extracting value from an organisation's data by providing the linkage between the business need or desire (policy) and the information or data value. The entire Embarcadero portfolio is "governance-enabled" and designed to share metadata and deliver control and value across the business planning and software development life cycle.

Embarcadero Launches ER/Studio XE3: Architected for Data Governance
Supporting the data governance strategy, Embarcadero is announcing the general availability of ER/Studio XE3. ER/Studio XE3 improves the customer's ability to interpret vast amounts of data accurately, thereby giving an organisation a distinct competitive advantage over those that have yet to fully capture and leverage associated metadata. The new release includes:

  • An advanced universal mappings feature for improved enterprise modeling and impact analysis between physical, logical and conceptual models

  • The ability to create custom data types, allowing comprehensive forward and reverse engineering

  • Support for SQL Server 2012, Teradata, Netezza, Greenplum and Windows 8

  • Easier support for large model management

  • Brand new Portal with revised user interface, all new search engine enterprise data dictionaries and deeper model metadata visibility

"Embarcadero understands software and database professionals," said Michael Swindell, Embarcadero senior vice president of marketing and product management. "We know what keeps them up at night, and we build solutions that solve their specific problems. The latest release of ER/Studio delivers on our strategy of metadata governance and syndication. XE3 connects IT architects to their business colleagues for collaboration and control of data governance initiatives and syndicates metadata throughout the enterprise to unlock information assets. XE3 also extends the ER/Studio footprint to include support of popular Big Data platforms, such as Netezza and Greenplum, embracing a significant area of growth in enterprise data."

A recent study by analyst firm IDC reports that in 2012, 1.7 million cloud computing-related roles across the globe could not be filled due to the lack of training, certification and experience in the applicant pool. As the global demand for cloud and big data expertise increases, employers are finding it difficult to recruit talent, which is slowing down the ability for organizations to adopt, implement, and realize benefits from innovative platforms like OpenStack. In this session join Clo...

Companies around the world are collecting massive amounts of data everyday that’s sitting around and not being utilized. Take for example the fact that companies collect demographic and location-based data via mobile devices all the time, but have to figure out how to monetize that data. In this session, Joyent CTO and founder Jason Hoffman will examine the state of Big Data, taking a look at what we're doing now to discussing what's on the horizon, as companies prepare and realign their busines...
Enterprises can't close their doors just because integration tools won't cope with the volume of information that their systems produce. As each day goes by, their information will become larger and more complicated, and enterprises must constantly struggle to manage the integration of dozens (or hundreds) of systems. Apache Hadoop has quickly become the technology of choice for enterprises that need to perform complex analysis of petabytes of data, but few are aware of its potential to hand...
Planning scalable environments isn't terribly difficult, but it does require a change of perspective. During this session we'll broaden our views to think on an Internet Scale by dissecting a video publishing application built with The SoftLayer Platform, Message Queuing, Object Storage, and Drupal. By examining a scalable modular application build that can handle unpredictable traffic, you'll be able to grow your development arsenal and pick up a few strategies to apply to your own projects.
If zettabytes of data exist, why is less than 1% of the world’s data being analyzed today? Seasoned entrepreneur and startup CEO Radhika Subramanian believes that the inability to analyze and gain value from Big Data is that organizations are taking a services-centered approach. As the title of the session implies, Subramanian believes that the data needs to do the talking, not armies of analysts searching and querying databases. Her company has developed high-speed, advanced algorithms to autom...
