Scalable Data Management and Protection Solutions for the Enterprise

Coraid’s EtherDrive storage platform teams up with CommVault’s market-leading enterprise data management and protection software

“CommVault and Coraid complement each other perfectly for organizations that need a scalable, comprehensive, cost-effective approach to data protection,” said Doug Dooley, vice president of product management at Coraid, as Coraid today announced certification for its EtherDrive storage system with CommVault Simpana.

“Advanced data management paired with a scale-out, flexible storage infrastructure ensures data growth can be managed effectively. A joint solution with CommVault and Coraid demonstrates the flexibility and power of an open system architecture,” Dooley added.

The two companies have deployed joint customers worldwide in sectors including financial services, entertainment, food and beverage, healthcare, and transportation.

“Combining the intelligence of Simpana with the simplicity and scalability of Coraid EtherDrive storage allows us to protect critical applications and data,” said Chris Farmer, IT manager at Siemens MR Magnet Technology, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of superconducting magnetic resonance imaging magnets for medical applications. “One of the things that really impressed us is the ability to upgrade the connectivity, capacity and performance independently as our needs change or volumes grow. Although cost was not the main factor, the solution also proved much more competitively priced than anything else we had looked at with the same level of functionality or performance.” Siemens MR Magnet Technology has deployed a CommVault-based backup and recovery solution for years, and switched from legacy iSCSI-based NAS storage to Coraid EtherDrive.

The astronomical growth of data in enterprises is one of the biggest challenges for data center storage infrastructure. This rapid growth in primary data has in turn driven the need for reliable backup and data management systems that are easy to manage and can efficiently scale with demand. Regulatory requirements around data retention and a growing need for business continuity and disaster recovery have further accentuated the importance of selecting a comprehensive data management system.

The CommVault Simpana software platform offers a rich, flexible set of capabilities such as multi-level deduplication, compression and centralized monitoring and control that allow administrators to tame the problem of data protection and archival in an environment of unchecked data growth.
