Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS together accounted for a whopping 92 percent of global smartphone shipments in Q4 of 2012, according to a report by Strategy Analytics.  Read Original Content

Apple was able to maintain its lead of smartphone sales in the U.S. market during the holiday quarter ending December 23, according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. The report said iOS was the top-selling smartphone platform during the three-month period, as it recorded 51.2-percent of market sales compared to Android’s 44.2-percent.  Read Original Content

According to IDC, vendors shipped a total of 482.5 million mobile phones in the fourth quarter of 2012 compared to 473.4 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011. Struggling phone maker Nokia has reported a profit for the last quarter of 2012, compared to a £633 million loss a year earlier. According to Portio Research, at the end of Decemeber 2012 there were 36 million active smartphones in the UK market, and a further 47 million active non-smartphones. And according to the projected compound annual growth rate, the number of smartphones is set to reach 63 million by the end of 2016.  Read Original Content

LG's first premium smartphone in years, the Optimus G, has helped the Korean company snatch second place from Apple. According to Yonhap News Agency, LG's share of all mobile devices in the U.S. rose to 13 percent in the month of December, which was just ahead of Apple's 12 percent.  Read Original Content

According to Strategy Analytics, global smartphone shipments have increased from 490.5 million during 2011 to 700.1 million during 2012, which is roughly 30 percent growth year-over-year.  Read Original Content
