Telehouse is first overseas winner of prestigious China data centre award

Brand new Telehouse Beijing data centre wins China's IDC Industry Best Third-Party-Infrastructure Award

4th February 2013, London - The newly opened Telehouse Beijing BDA facility has been named as the first foreign-affiliated firm to receive China's 2012 IDC Industry Award for best third-party-infrastructure provider at China's largest data centre event organised by IDC Quan.

This award commends the most outstanding provider that contributed to the development of China's data centre industry in terms of availability, energy-efficiency and network environment.

Telehouse Beijing BDA, which opened for business on the 1st January 2013, manages a large-scale 25,000 sqm colocation data centre providing 3,000 racks inside Beijing's economic-technological development area. This is one of the largest state-level development areas in China, securely located 30 minutes from central Beijing. The facility incorporates a redundant equipment configuration based on the Telehouse global standards, highly energy efficient system, combined with the latest technologies and a rich carrier-neutral environment.

The new Tier 3 data centre was designed with the latest energy-efficiency technologies, including specialised hot-aisle/cold-aisle configuration, use of air-side economisers to provide free cooling in winter as well as a hybrid-type free cooling system. These advanced initiatives were cited by the judges as key factors for winning the award.

As well as being one of the most environmentally-friendly facilities in China, Telehouse's Beijing data centre is among the most advanced in terms of connectivity, security and safety. The facility is built to Seismic Grade 8 to protect against earthquakes; boasts the latest security monitoring and access technologies; and is carrier-neutral, enabling a multi-carrier option - which is rare among Beijing data centres.

EMEA Managing Director of Telehouse and KDDI, Hiroshi Kobayashi commented, "Opening our second data centre in Beijing signifies our commitment to China as a serious ICT infrastructure partner. We are proud to receive this award in recognition of the Telehouse global standards and our efforts towards implementing energy efficient schemes, especially in a market which is forecasted by DCD Intelligence to see total power consumption from data centres increase to 3.8GW by 2015."

"2013 is expected to be the year that cloud computing really takes off in China. We want to ensure that we play a key role in supporting this growth through our dependable data centres in Shanghai and Beijing. In addition to cloud computing, the financial and media industry in China is aimed to dramatically grow, and that requires highly secure and well-connected data centre hubs like Telehouse" Kobayashi added.

Upon winning this award Telehouse expressed its gratitude to all of its customers, and vowed to continue its efforts to meet their various ICT needs and to continually improve its quality of service in the future.

One of the most compelling promises of the cloud is that you can pull out a credit card and be working in minutes. No purchase orders to fill out, no equipment to wait for on the loading dock. Just instant access to the resources you need, when you need them. But accessibility comes at a price, and an unintentional consequence may be that you create yet another orphaned identity silo. Enterprise IT has spent years consolidating its mishmash of directories, only to discover that cloud now threate...
