Lantiq and ZyXEL Enable Voice Over LTE Functionality on Award Winning Multi-Service Gateway

Fixed Wireless Broadband Carriers Can Now Offer Subscribers Native Voice Service

BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 02/06/13 -- Lantiq and ZyXEL Communications, two leading producers of broadband access technology and service provider solutions, announced that ZyXEL's award winning LTE5121, the fixed LTE multi-service gateway, now supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Availability of VoLTE on a fixed LTE gateway platform allows carriers to consolidate their voice, video and data networks thereby improving network operations and reducing costs in delivering triple-play services to subscribers over wireless broadband.

The ZyXEL LTE5121 gateway was a CES 2013 Innovations Design and Engineering Honoree in the Home Networking Product category; recognized for its innovative design, engineering and cutting-edge features that address what consumers and the market are expecting from 4G/LTE technology. The LTE5121 Gateway is also the best platform for ZyXEL to enable upcoming VoLTE capability for household markets. With this gateway, carriers can provide the same high quality of voice, data and video triple-play services as wired broadband can serve today, but without requiring last-mile wired infrastructure like copper or fiber.

The widely deployed Lantiq XWAY™ GRX288 Broadband network processor that powers the LTE5121 gateway manages the VoLTE software stack, which provides native voice and other rich media services. Lantiq also provides the required voice-line service chip (XWAY™ SLIC110) needed to use standard phone terminals in a home or small business.

Stéphane Téral, Principal Analyst of Infonetics Research: "47% of the LTE operators we interviewed for a July 2012 study said they plan to offer a voice service over their LTE RAN within one year of launching LTE services. IMS remains the default VoLTE platform with circuit-switch fallback as a backup in areas where LTE is unavailable."

Wayne Hwang, Assistant Vice President of Wireless Strategy Business Unit for ZyXEL: "By incorporating the Lantiq network processor, the ZyXEL LTE5121 gateway is able to provide the processing bandwidth to support multiple advanced communications capabilities. This allows us to respond to market evolution quickly and deliver solutions that allow our customers to provide rich media and other premium services to their subscribers."

Dirk Wieberneit, Head of the Customer Premises Equipment Business Unit of Lantiq: "ZyXEL has long recognized that carriers have to support a wide range of subscriber services while achieving economies in the platforms they have to support. The LTE5121 is precisely the type of powerful, modular gateway carriers need to meet these dual requirements. Our highly integrated GRX288 network processor helps ZyXEL to address these challenging market requirements."

Find these and other innovations from ZyXEL, at booth 5B60, Hall 5 at the Mobile World Congress, 25-28 February, 2013, in Barcelona.

DevOps is all about agility. However, you don't want to be on a high-speed bus to nowhere. The right DevOps approach controls velocity with a tight feedback loop that not only consists of operational data but also incorporates business context. With a business context in the decision making, the right business priorities are incorporated, which results in a higher value creation. In his session at DevOps Summit, Todd Rader, Solutions Architect at AppDynamics, discussed key monitoring techniques...

What do a firewall and a fortress have in common? They are no longer strong enough to protect the valuables housed inside. Like the walls of an old fortress, the cracks in the firewall are allowing the bad guys to slip in - unannounced and unnoticed. By the time these thieves get in, the damage is already done and the network is already compromised. Intellectual property is easily slipped out the back door leaving no trace of forced entry. If we want to reign in on these cybercriminals, it's hig...
The term culture has had a polarizing effect among DevOps supporters. Some propose that culture change is critical for success with DevOps, but are remiss to define culture. Some talk about a DevOps culture but then reference activities that could lead to culture change and there are those that talk about culture change as a set of behaviors that need to be adopted by those in IT. There is no question that businesses successful in adopting a DevOps mindset have seen departmental culture change, ...

If you look into the details of what comprises the IoT, you’ll see that it includes everything from cloud computing, Big Data analytics, “Things,” Web communication, applications, network, storage, etc. It is essentially including everything connected online from ha...
The security devil is always in the details of the attack: the ones you've endured, the ones you prepare yourself to fend off, and the ones that, you fear, will catch you completely unaware and defenseless. The Internet of Things (IoT) is nothing if not an endless proliferation of details. It's the vision of a world in which continuous Internet connectivity and addressability is embedded into a growing range of human artifacts, into the natural world, and even into our smartphones, appliances, a...

Scott Jenson leads a project called The Physical Web within the Chrome team at Google. Project members are working to take the scalability and openness of the web and use it to talk to the exponentially exploding range of smart devices. Nearly every company today working on the IoT comes up with the same basic solution: use my server and you'll be fine. But if we really believe there will be trillions of these devices, that just can't scale. We need a system that is open a scalable and by using ...
