Sunverge Energy Achieves Highest Industry Standard with UL Certification of its Sunverge SIS

Sunverge SIS awarded UL 1778 incorporating conformance to UL 1741 and IEEE 1547.1 requirements for the interconnection of renewable and distributed energy resources with energy storage.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunverge Energy, Inc., the leading developer of distributed energy storage solutions for intelligent and grid-interactive virtual power plant operations, announced today it has received UL 1778 certification from Intertek Testing Services for its Solar Integration System (SIS™). The UL 1778 certification incorporates conformance to UL 1741 and IEEE 1547.1 requirements for the interconnection of renewable and distributed energy resources with energy storage, and additionally encompasses relevant UL standards 1989, 1642, 60730-1, 873, and UL rating 50E for outdoor and indoor applications.

With UL certification of the Sunverge SIS™, Sunverge Energy meets the highest industry standards for safe and reliable implementation of energy storage devices (ES), power electronics connected distributed energy resources (DER), hybrid generation-storage systems (ES-DER), and plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) co-located with energy storage. Multiple layers of safety and security protection are built into the SIS™, from within individual components to electrical circuitry to software that constantly monitors and controls the system, both locally and in the cloud.   This "defense-in-depth" strategy is designed and optimized for the system as a whole, delivering enhanced safeguards beyond what individual batteries, battery management systems, and power electronics can provide.

Sunverge Energy Chairman and CTO Dean Sanders commented, "The Sunverge SIS™ performed extremely well throughout the entire test process. This certification signifies that Sunverge meets all of the product safety standards for connection to a utility power grid anywhere in the United States or other countries where UL standards are accepted."

"The Sunverge SIS™ was designed in collaboration with major U.S. and international utilities and defines the industry's highest benchmarks for grid applications of distributed resources.  We are grateful to have gained their insight and valuable feedback."

Commenting further, Sanders stated "the combination of certification testing and experienced gained through our utility partnerships have reinforced our belief that we are setting the pace in this rapidly emerging market.  In our residential, commercial, and utility distribution projects, Sunverge is delivering the industry's safest and most advanced distributed energy storage solutions."

About Sunverge Energy, Inc.

Sunverge Energy is a California-based company that optimizes the value of renewable energy by leveraging the practical advantages of distributed generation, storage, and software-as-a-service.  Sunverge serves its customers by adopting a cloud-services delivery model for energy.   Each SIS storage appliance provides power and energy services at the site where it is deployed.  At the same time, reserve energy from every SIS under management is aggregate and pooled in the cloud.   From this 'virtualized' pool, utilities and third-parties can reserve energy in advance, and can also request energy in real-time.   Sunverge cloud energy services work continuously to balance grid demands by shifting resources to where they are needed most, optimizing how energy is captured and delivered.
