Requirements of a Cloud Database

Details of Barry Morris's upcoming session at 12th Cloud Expo / Cloud Expo New York [June 10-13, 2013]

The traditional databases of the 20th century were never designed to scale to meet 21st century data demands. Google alone processes about 24 petabytes of data/day. With the added complexity of heavily virtualized hardware and storage plus apps being moved in and out of private, hybrid and public clouds, application developers, SaaS vendors, ISVs and enterprise IT all need a better answer.

Citing customer examples and performance benchmarks, Barry Morris's session at 12th Cloud Expo | Cloud Expo New York [June 10-13, 2103] will explore the new rules for a 21st century Cloud Data Management System and explore the critical new roles databases play in customers’ strategies and how to resolve today's web-scale challenges.

An accomplished software CEO with over 25 years of industry experience in the USA and Europe, running private and public companies ranging in scale from early startup phase to 1,000+ employees, he loves to build companies around industry-changing paradigm-shifts in technology. The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next-gen applications and how to address the challenges of building applications that harness all data types and sources.
