Gartner Ranks HDS VSP #1 for General Purpose Disk Arrays

hdsWhen it comes to choosing a high-end disk storage platform, you’ve got to choose wisely. You need general purpose disk arrays that will give you the kind of performance, functionality and scalability that you need.

Today’s storage system marketplace can be tough to navigate. The boundaries between network-attached storage and other solutions aren’t as clear as they were even just five years ago.

At the front of the pack, at least according to Garner, are the Hitachi Data Systems storage platforms, including the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP).

Platform strengths

Hitachi VSP has risen to the top of the pack for good reason. Just consider some of the outstanding features of this platform:

  • High-end functionality. Some storage platforms excel on scalability while lacking in utilization efficiency. Others have tremendous replication capabilities but have a blind spot when it comes to data protection. Hitachi Data Systems VSP offers scalability of both performance and capacity, world-class utilization efficiency, strong data protection, highly functional replication software and effective virtualization all in a single platform.
  • Active/Active controller architecture. This architecture from HDS provides VSP users with automatic load balancing that is often missing from dual-controller disk array systems in the midrange. Each controller can access any of the LUNs with an equal level of performance.
  • Active/Active clustering. HDS VSP offers symmetric clustering that allows between two and eight nodes. It includes cluster namespace, volumes of 256TB, multiprotocol file services, expanded levels of scalability and virtualized file systems.

All of the Hitachi Data Systems solutions, including not only VSP but also Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) and Hitachi Network Attached Storage (HNAS) can be effectively managed via the Hitachi Command Suite, making sure that organizations have the tools they need to use their HDS systems in the way that’s most effective for their organization.

The end is nowhere in sight with HDS VSP, either. Originally deployed to the market in September of 2010, we’re likely to soon see a hardware refresh on this platform soon that will incorporate some of the newest CPU tech from Intel.

We are seeing a major migration of enterprises applications to the cloud. As cloud and business use of real time applications accelerate, legacy networks are no longer able to architecturally support cloud adoption and deliver the performance and security required by highly distributed enterprises. These outdated solutions have become more costly and complicated to implement, install, manage, and maintain.SD-WAN offers unlimited capabilities for accessing the benefits of the cloud and Internet. SD-WAN helps enterprises to take advantage of the exploding landscape of cloud applications and services, due to its unique capability to support all things cloud related.
Business professionals no longer wonder if they'll migrate to the cloud; it's now a matter of when. The cloud environment has proved to be a major force in transitioning to an agile business model that enables quick decisions and fast implementation that solidify customer relationships. And when the cloud is combined with the power of cognitive computing, it drives innovation and transformation that achieves astounding competitive advantage.
