When it came to write up its report on yesterday's Annual General Meeting of Sun Microsystems, Inc., at the company's headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, the Reuters news agency more or less left the talking to Chairman and Chief Executive Scott McNealy.
Here's a brief slection of the words of McNealy himself, as reported by Reuters' Duncan Martell direct from San Francisco:
"It was not a complete disaster by any stretch of the imagination. And I think we protected the shareholder assets very aggressively in the last fiscal year."
"We obviously are not pleased with the entirety of our fiscal year last year. We expect to grow and to make money."
"We're trying to build the car in an industry that is solely focused on selling the components."
That last statement, as the Reuters report explained, is a reference to McNealy's contention that, now that anything with a digital or biological heartbeat will be connected to a computer network, the industry encourages customers to buy components rather than entire systems that arrive virtually ready to be plugged in and turned on - which is Sun's specialty.
The market clearly believes weather man McNealy: year to date, Sun stock has climbed 35%.
