Although security is one of the most talked about topics in the IT channel today, there's a widespread lack of education and awareness in the workplace. Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are welcoming more technology into their everyday environment, but the rapid development of this technology is also accompanied by changes in cybersecurity and Internet threats.

What these businesses don't know is that they can become more aligned with cybersecurity and IT security spending by outsourcing to an MSP like you. You offer the required skillset, technology and knowledge to ensure protection of your clients' data - ultimately, that's what you have to convince prospects. As the technology landscape continues to grow and become more complex, small and medium-sized businesses are focusing their attention on a range of technology issues they need help with, and security is at the top of their list. According to CompTIA's Enabling SMBs with Technology study, 42 percent of SMBs report IT security as their top area for improvement. Furthermore, a similar CompTIA study found that enhanced security was a driving factor for partnering with an MSP for 38 percent of companies. Security is quickly becoming a top priority for all businesses as breaches occur more frequently, carry more serious repercussions and are caused in a variety of ways. According to a security report by Symantec, the number of data breaches has risen 26 percent since 2013.
