WATERLOO, ONTARIO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/01/08 -- MKS Inc. (TSX: MKX) announced today the immediate availability of Implementer® 2008, an integral part of MKS Integrity for IBM i. MKS Integrity for IBM i is an enterprise software platform that covers all facets of the application lifecycle from IT Help Desk, requirements management, software change and configuration management, test management and release management.
With the release of Implementer 2008, MKS delivers major improvements for IBM i (also System i and iSeries) users in the following areas:
- Streamlined development within IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client for System i (WDSC) 7.0 and new support for IBM Rational Developer for System i (RDi) 7.1 - the developer experience now takes advantage of the latest Eclipse-based technology in WDSC and RDi with a new plug-in for Remote System Explorer (RSE). Icons, decorators, last used values, and other common Eclipse features are utilized to simplify development. With MKS Integrity for IBM i developers can review work assignments, check out, edit, compile, check in, release and deploy, and update project information such as status and time entry all within RSE. With these enhancements, MKS now provides the deepest level of integration into IBM WDSC and IBM RDi available today, giving users a central point of control for unifying process across their application lifecycle.
- Tighter security in support of PCI compliance - to meet the needs of security conscious customers, such as those clients in the Payment Card Industry (PCI), encryption can now be utilized for FTP deployments and communication amongst other servers. MKS also worked closely with IBM to replace system state programs with new IBM i APIs and enhanced system commands for greater operating system security.
- Greater application availability during database promotions - faster database promotions for all SQL tables (leveraging dynamic Alter Table technology) and DDS-based physical files helps minimize application down time during large installations.
- Usability improvements for the developer - for developers choosing to use the host-based MKS Workbench, their work is simplified through Named User Filters which eliminate the need for repetitious entry of common search criteria. Numerous other usability enhancements have been included in this area where the developer spends most of his time.
- Improved third-party integrations - this release offers new support for Maximum Availability's noMax and enhanced integration support for JDE World, CA 2E, Visual LANSA, Lotus Domino, and Hawkeye Information Systems Pathfinder.
"In this release of Implementer 2008 we focused on simplifying the developer experience," says MKS Product Manager Marty Acks. "Our main objective was to let the developer work within WDSC/RDi in the most natural way possible. Those who have previewed this release have specifically cited the strong emphasis on working within Remote System Explorer (RSE) in WDSC/RDi as a major convenience, and the ability to do so without requiring the use of other clients, host-based interfaces, or third party products to perform their day-day to activities as distinguishing our integration from other offerings in the market."
MKS is pleased to announce two upcoming Webinars to review the new capabilities and enhancements in Implementer 2008, and demonstrate the integration between MKS Integrity and IBM WDSC and IBM RDi. The first, "What's New in Implementer 2008," will be held May 14 and will benefit existing customers. The second Webinar, "Simplifying the Developer Experience in IBM WDSC and IBM RDi," will benefit all WDSC/RDi users and will be held May 28. Both Webinars will run from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. BST for European clients, and 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. EDT for those in North America.
