Sosius Disrupts Web Collaboration Market with Pioneering Business Model

Innovative collaboration and business social networking provider challenges 'per user' pricing models and supports customer g

Sosius, the leader in unified social networking and collaboration, today announced the launch of its innovative business model, which is poised to disrupt the web collaboration market. Sosius supports customer adoption and growth with its ‘usage basis’ pricing structure - allowing customers to pay for what they are actually using, not the number of members or groups with which they interact. With this business model, Sosius challenges the ‘per user’ and ‘per workspace’ pricing established by the big collaboration vendors by offering an unlimited number of users and workspaces in all of its packages.

“Our vision is to build a strong community and work with our customers to build the best, most flexible online collaboration and business social networking solution on the market,” said Andrew Cameron-Webb, founder and CTO of Sosius. “Our new business model proves our commitment to putting the customer first while creating a foundation that will allow Sosius to achieve sustainable growth.”

The only provider of online collaboration and business social networking on one platform, Sosius broke the mold with the launch of its free, enterprise-grade solution last year. Now, due to high demand from its growing customer base, Sosius is offering upgrade options for premium features and services available at highly affordable rates. Unlike per user pricing structures that restrict the number of users, Sosius’ customized solutions support customer growth.

“As the Software as a Service (SaaS) market evolves, prices will drop and SaaS vendors will need to find novel approaches to monetization,” continues Cameron-Webb. “We believe our customer-driven, usage based approach to pricing is completely innovative and anticipate a major disruption in both the SaaS and collaboration markets as users discover our model.”

In addition to its usage-based pricing plans, Sosius will provide an ‘a la carte’ menu to allow customers to pick and choose additional features such as increased storage and bandwidth and higher levels of customer support and security. As the company continues to develop new applications and to partner with other leading providers of online collaboration and networking tools, Sosius users will have the ability to create truly customized solutions that best meet the needs of their business.

“One of the attractions of Sosius is the flexibility of the solution,” said Gervase Clifton-Bligh, vice president of product strategy and development, Fractal:Edge. “Other collaboration platforms are either limiting in terms of users or excessive in terms of cost. Sosius not only offers unlimited users, it also allows us to set our own usage limits, upgrade with new features, and add more storage as we need it. It’s a completely tailored platform that will grow as we grow.”

Packages and Pricing

Sosius will continue to offer a fully-functional, enterprise-grade version to individuals for free. The three new packages are designed for power users, small-to–mid sized enterprises and large organizations and feature unlimited users and workspaces:

  • Power ($15/mo) – for power users who needs more storage and bandwidth
  • Team ($50/mo) – for groups of 20 or more who require enhanced storage and support
  • Company ($100/mo) – ideal for large organizations that collaborate extensively

Sosius also offers a custom-priced Enterprise package with extensive storage levels, phone and email support, onsite training and expert consulting for organizations with more sophisticated needs. Charitable and non-governmental organizations can also benefit from Sosius’ collaboration solution and are eligible for complimentary enhanced storage and resources.

"Having been in the IT field for many years, I believe the cloud computing chapter in the industry is an exciting one and I am proud to be a part of it," said National Reconaissance Office (NRO) Chief Information Officer Jill T. Singer Tuesday, as it was announced that she was one of 10 winners of the 2012 CloudNOW "Top Ten Women in Cloud" Awards.
2011 was a year of rapid adoption for public and private cloud services. Instant and on-demand server provisioning was the driving force behind the massive growth. Building a cloud computing environment with on-demand access to compute, network, and storage resources requires an elastic infrastructure at multiple levels. Virtualization combined with x86 servers has transformed the way we scale out compute resources. Unfortunately, legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage architectures are rooted in rigid mainframe-era designs, and are fundamentally mismatched with the dynamic, shared modern data center. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, ...
