Informatica Joins Enterprise Grid Alliance to Accelerate Adoption of Grid Computing

Underscores Company's Commitment to Helping Customers Leverage the Power of Grid Computing in Their Enterprise Data Integration

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Informatica Corporation , a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that it has joined the Enterprise Grid Alliance (EGA), a non-profit multi-vendor consortium dedicated to driving the adoption of grid computing in the enterprise. Informatica's EGA membership reinforces the company's commitment to grid computing, which helps customers leverage existing hardware server assets to increase IT responsiveness and enhance data integration performance and cost-effectiveness.

"We are pleased to welcome Informatica to the EGA and anticipate its contributions to our ongoing efforts will help accelerate the development of grid technologies and eliminate remaining adoption obstacles," said Dr. Donald Deutsch, president, Enterprise Grid Alliance and vice president, standards strategy and architecture, Oracle. "Large-scale data integration projects require the kind of highly scalable, high-performance infrastructures that grid computing enables. Informatica's experience in this arena will help the EGA meet its goals and make enterprise grid computing a reality."

"Server-grid functionality is integral to Informatica's enterprise data integration solution, and will continue to play a prevalent role in our product direction moving forward," said James Markarian, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Informatica. "We are looking forward to working closely with other EGA members to ensure interoperability within grid environments and maximize the value of grid computing for our customers."

Grid computing dynamically leverages pools of servers and other hardware assets, thus enabling customers to harness their surplus computing power to run distributed or parallel workloads. Informatica's server-grid capabilities in PowerCenter Advanced Edition optimize and distribute workflow execution across multiple networked, heterogeneous CPU nodes regardless of operating system or latency requirements. This provides customers with enhanced performance and scalability, increased IT flexibility, lower hardware costs, and more efficient use of existing computing resources.

The Enterprise Grid Alliance is an open consortium focused on developing and promoting enterprise grid solutions. Membership is open to all organizations via multiple participation tiers. For more information, visit http://www.gridalliance.org/.

Building a cloud computing environment with on-demand access to compute, network, and storage resources requires an elastic infrastructure at multiple levels. Virtualization combined with x86 servers has transformed the way we scale out compute resources. Unfortunately, legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage architectures are rooted in rigid mainframe-era designs, and are fundamentally mismatched with the dynamic, shared modern data center. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, ...

2011 was a year of rapid adoption for public and private cloud services. Instant and on-demand server provisioning was the driving force behind the massive growth. On top, cloud server templates and script automation simplified application installation for simple and pre-defined application stacks, but have not targeted more complex enterprise application environments. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, John Yung, CEO of Appcara, will discuss how 2012 will be the year for app...
As more enterprises are adopting clouds, the nature of cloud computing is changing. Previously, clouds were used to test applications or for non-mission critical applications. Today, enterprises are using clouds for cost-saving advantages and launching more mission critical applications that have defined performance needs. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Eric Shepcaro, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Telx, will discuss how distributed computing has many advantages. It wou...
