LONDON -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 07/16/08 -- GigaSpaces Technologies and Cohesive Flexible Technologies (CohesiveFT), today at CloudCamp UK, announced their partnership to enable unprecedented simplicity in building scalable applications in cloud environments. GigaSpaces' recently announced cloud application server, combined with CohesiveFT's Elastic Server(TM) On-Demand, allows customers to build popular software stacks and deploy them on multiple cloud providers with just a few clicks. The joint solution handles partitioning, load-balancing and fail-over, while CohesiveFT makes it easy to bundle these applications with software stacks and deploy them on many cloud infrastructures.
The highly scalable GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform (XAP) is ideal for large testing grid scenarios in which there is a need to rapidly develop, deploy and test complex data-intensive and transactional applications on large clusters. The offering marks a new era for developing applications in the cloud. It makes it possible to easily build a GigaSpaces distributed application with popular software stacks such as Apache Tomact Web Server, Mule ESB and many more.
Customers also benefit from cloud portability, which allows them to move applications from on-premise to and among different clouds. CohesiveFT recently announced its support for the Flexiscale cloud environment and the Skytap Virtual Lab as well as for Amazon EC2 and VMware.
"Our partnership with GigaSpaces will enable customers to build on popular software stacks just as easily as they would add items to an online shopping cart," said Ryan Koop, marketing manager, CohesiveFT. "Together we are opening up the possibilities of businesses operating on the cloud and look forward to increasing our support for additional cloud platforms."
"Working with CohesiveFT allows us to offer customers a simple approach to cloud computing," said Geva Perry, chief marketing officer, GigaSpaces. "Our joint solution clearly indicates a new level in the industry in terms of developing applications for the cloud. With the combination of our cloud application server and CohesiveFT's Elastic Server On-Demand, it's easy as it gets for customers to build scalable applications and deploy them on clouds of their choice."
GigaSpaces and CohesiveFT are currently working on expanding the joint integration to support other popular cloud providers and developing new and innovative functionalities. The companies will be offering a live demonstration today at CloudCamp UK showing how to build a GigaSpaces application on Elastic Server On-Demand and deploy it to Amazon EC2. The demo will take place from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at The Crypt on the Green, St James Clerkenwell, Clerkenwell Close, London EC1R 0EA, with a reception immediately following.
GigaSpaces XAP is a next-generation application server built for today's most demanding enterprise and Web applications. Unlike traditional application servers, GigaSpaces XAP enables predictable application scalability on-demand. Its scale-out application server offers a unique architecture that allows the data and logic to be reliably co-located in the same machine, in-memory.

By Liz McMillan Building a cloud computing environment with on-demand access to compute, network, and storage resources requires an elastic infrastructure at multiple levels. Virtualization combined with x86 servers has transformed the way we scale out compute resources. Unfortunately, legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage architectures are rooted in rigid mainframe-era designs, and are fundamentally mismatched with the dynamic, shared modern data center.
