EMC Tuesday tapped Harel Kodesh to be president of its cloud infrastructure and services business, reporting to EMC capo Joe Tucci.

Kodesh will also serve as the CEO of Decho, the subsidiary EMC recently created to focus on personal information management in the cloud.

Decho includes Mozy, EMC’s cloud backup unit, and Pi Corp, the mystery “personal information” start-up that Paul Maritz, now CEO of VMware, another EMC unit, founded and sold to EMC before EMC’s impatience with VMware co-founder Diane Greene led to her ouster and Maritz replacing her.

Tucci said in a canned statement that “Harel's depth of industry and business management experience, combined with his extensive expertise designing and developing enterprise and consumer-class information management products will serve as tremendous asset to customers and shareholders as we embark into our next phase of technology innovation.”

A Microsoft veteran like Maritz and now entrusted with Maritz’s baby, Pi, Kodesh has lately been chief product officer at Amdocs, the telecom billing, CRM and order management ISV and outsourcer, responsible for R&D, development, architecture and applications.

At Microsoft all through the 90s, when Maritz was two heartbeats from the top, Kodesh held various executive positions, including VP of its Information Appliance Division and founder of the Windows CE operating system.

He was also once president and CEO of Wingcast Inc, a company formed by Qualcomm and Ford Motor Company to provide services for sending, receiving and storing information via telecommunication devices to the automotive industry.

Besides forming Decho last month, EMC introduced its Atmos cloud storage infrastructure solution, which is mean to enable Web 2.0 and Internet providers, telecommunications, media and entertainment companies to build global cloud-based information-centric services and applications by providing centralized management and automated information placement.
